In a time of reflection, both internally as a brand, and externally with the global environmental melee happening around the world, Creative Director Scot Shandalove explores the merging of eco-friendly fabrics coupled with the use of reflective metallic, technical materials. Fusing the importance of reducing global impact, while understanding the need for protective, functional comfort. Ultimately landing on the true ethos of Matiere.

With the Autumn/Winter 2017 collection, Matiere continues to build upon the musically inspired thread, drawing inspiration this season from founder Scot Shandalove’s fascination with punk-rock music. With a nod to the UK’s “youth against establishment” generation of the late 60’s and early 70’s, Matiere embraces this rebellious attitude by designing references inspired by legendary bands of the era, The Who and The Clash.
Shandalove grew up listening to punk and was intrigued by taking a sophisticated approach to the raw, unfiltered, frenetic energy pouring out of the London clubs during this time. In keeping true to the brands modern esthetic, the designers worked on a hybrid of influences melding fabrics and styling cues from both the “mod” and “punk” sub-cultures, resulting in collection of luxurious, refined anarchy.
Incorporating directional materials, prints and unique washes reminiscent of the era, the brand establishes a fashion-forward collage of punk modernity. Seersucker plaid flannels and wools mixed with wide wale cords and functional technical outerwear to create.
